“Freedom is not something that anybody can be given. Freedom is something people take, and people are as free as they want to be.”
— James Baldwin

Jabarey joined the Social Insights team in June 2024.

Jabarey Wells is a Social Insights Graduate Student Summer Research Intern. As clinical and community psychology doctoral student, Jabarey’s primary endeavor is to aid in healing the historical and ongoing traumas that Black folks have endured, both at an individual and community level. He provides space for people to cultivate their understanding of themselves and their conditions through therapy, community intervention, program evaluation, qualitative research, and education, all grounded in liberation frameworks informed by Black and Indigenous knowledge. Jabarey is particularly interested in the how intersections of carceral systems, critical geographies, urban design, race, and class influence our various life contexts, and how we can enact systemic change to transform those contexts.

Jabarey earned his M.A. in clinical/community psychology from University of Maryland Baltimore County and his B.A. in psychology from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. In his free time, he enjoys creating pastel portraits, roller skating, and wandering in the woods.
